I curated this list of art museums in Vienna that you’re going to love, with passion, just for you. About a year ago, I moved to the Czech Republic, and the best part about my life here is that I live a train ride away from some of my favorite cities in Europe. Number one is Vienna. I have had the chance to explore Vienna so many times, and every time I made sure to check out a different museum, so I can curate a list that you’re going to love as much as I did.

7 Art Museums in Vienna you’re going to love
Upper and Lower Belvedere Museum
My first choice for this list was the Belvedere Palace, rightfully so because the Upper Belvedere Museum is home to the iconic artwork “The Kiss” by Gustav Klimt.
Upper Belvedere was one of the most organized and easiest museums to navigate. The collection’s size is so perfect, and I was surprised to see more paintings of Gustav Klimt than I ever knew about. The palace garden also offers an amazing view of the Vienna city center.

You can read this article I shared about Gustav Klimt’s art after seeing his art in Upper Belvedere: The Curse of Creating a Very Famous Painting: Gustav Klimt
The Otto Wagner Villa
This villa is absolutely stunning. I was mesmerized by how majestic it is and couldn’t for a minute believe that I was in Vienna. I have no words to describe this place or the amazing pictures you could take in the villa. You’ll have to trust me and go explore it yourself. This ticket includes both the Ernst Fuchs Museum & Otto Wagner Complex.
Kunsthistorisches Museum
The Kunsthistorisches Museum is one of the biggest museums I have ever visited, and the interior is a masterpiece. The museum is also known for the café inside it and the magnificent details of its halls and corridors. The collection, however, was a bit too extensive in my opinion. I was overstimulated after about 2h of walking around the galleries, but kept going because I got crazy fomo that I hadn’t yet seen everything inside it.
If you are ever in Vienna and have an evening to spare, definitely grab a ticket and go see it.
Albertina museum
Albertina is one of the most well-known museums in Vienna, and the tickets are usually sold out because it’s a rather popular tourist attraction. So if you plan to go, I would recommend that you plan ahead.
The Albertina hosts one of the world’s most iconic artworks by one of my favorite artists, Claude Monet’s “The Water Lily Pond“.
Sisi Museum in the Hofburg
This is a museum for the girlies and anyone interested in Sisi, the Empress of Austria. The gallery exhibits a selection of her everyday items, dresses, notes, etc. And the interior of the Hofburg Palace, as well as the gardens, is a must-visit in my opinion.
If you want to visit this museum, make sure you grab a skip-the-line ticket as the lines at the museum tend to be pretty long and time-consuming.
Schloss Schonbrunn
The Schönbrunn Palace Gardens are a must-see in Vienna, and while you’re there, you might as well discover the Schloss Schönbrunn museum. The Schönbrunn is the Versailles of Vienna, and you can book a tour for both the palace (including the halls and museum) as well as the gardens here.
National Austrian Library (state hall)
This is the library from Beauty and the Beast, and it’s a dreamy destination. The ceilings impressed me the most as the frescos painted on them are a real work of art. The state hall also holds old music notes from notable Austrian musicians, books (only accessible if you have a subscription), and interactive screens where you get to learn more about the hall and the artworks featured.
You can grab a ticket through the official website or buy it in person at the National Austrian Library.
Conclusion
What other museums in Vienna would you add to this list? Enjoy creating <3
