What do you need to make textured air-dry clay art on canvas?

Step-by-step guide to making air-dry clay art on canvas?

  1. You are going to start by putting up your canvas or panel
  2. Sketch the subject of your clay art
  3. Wet the surface
  4. Make a slurry by mixing water and clay in a container. Consistency shouldn’t be too runny since this is going to act like glue for your artwork.
  5. Start by adding clay to your desired spot, then work it on your surface using a palette knife, a sculpting tool, or a stiff brush.
  6. The wetter the clay, the easier it will shape. But if the layer is too wet or too thin, the clay will crack once it dries down, so keep this in mind.
  7. When you feel like the clay is too thick, leave it, because you can always sand it down once it dries. But if it’s too thin, the risk of cracking is higher.
  8. Keep a sponge on hand while working, so you can soak up excess water from your artwork and keep things smooth.
  9. Leave your creations in an airy space with no direct sunlight to prevent them from getting cracked.
  10. The drying process will take from 24 to 48 hours, depending on how humid it is where you live.
