My journaling prompts for the new year 2025

1. This year I want to…

This is very general but it is always a great way to get started because it warms up your brain and gets you in the mental space for a good in depth journaling session. I also find it easier when the prompts are more open as they offer space to be as specific or as random as you possibly can. Maybe this year you want to be more social or you want to read 10 books. It is up to you to decide which approach you want to proceed with.

2. Doing ….. last year made me happier

In 2024, I quit my job and moved to the Czech Republic to volunteer for a year. That was the best decision of my 2024 and doing it made me the happiest I have ever been. The shift gave me a space of my own where I could relax and regulate my emotions, reflect on the things that were creating chaos in my life and rearrange my priorities for the present and the future. And as easy and chill as it sounds, healing is a very messy journey that comes with realizations that we sometimes are not ready to accept or act on but, it is about being grateful for the seed it planted in my life and I know that my future will be very different thanks to this simple little change.

3. I am leaving behind ….. to make space for ….

Leaving behind toxic people, painful memories, unwanted feelings, destructive habits, regrets, etc. to make space for new meaningful relationships, happier memories, a healthy outlook on feelings and emotions, better habits and acceptance. This is an example of how you can proceed with this journaling prompt for the new year. Feel free to adjust it to your liking and make it all about you and what you need for your future self.

4. I am proud of myself for ….

You can be proud of your personality traits, your skills or of your decisions and actions in certain situations. And although this one seems like a very easy prompt, when you actually start to brainstorm what you are proud of, it gets really tricky.

Personally, it took me a minute to work on this one because I sometimes take myself for granted. However, I am really proud of myself for changing. For becoming a stronger woman who has a voice, and who is not ready to walk all over her boundaries and needs to please people anymore. You can be proud of yourself for leaning to your intuition, being able to love, excel and help others when you can. I am very proud of myself for being creative and not letting the world define who I am or what I do for me. I am still learning to be proud of myself for who I am and not for what I do and do not ; but until then, I will continue to be proud of my growth and how I am managing to become a better version of the person I have always been.

5. This year I will not be afraid to ….

Maybe this is your sign to stop being afraid of starting a TikTok account in 2025. Or to wear the clothes you are saving for those special days that never seem to come. Whatever it is you are afraid to do, go ahead and write it down. Plant the seed. You may not feel ready to start acting on it right away but let it marinate in your backburner. It will help you to start somewhere.

Conclusion

These were 5 of my journaling prompts for the new year. Let me know if you use any of them for your reflections or if you have other inspiring ideas for journaling prompts that you can share with the others in the comment section. Enjoy creating <3
