The other day my brother showed me a post on IG that said: “If you look around you, you’ll see that you have the things you were wishing for 5 years ago,” and that hit home!
If you follow my blog, you know that my favorite art medium after painting is journaling, and in this article, I am going to share with you an art journaling exercise that you can use to document a year in an artistic time capsule so you can look back on your year and highlight the lessons you learned from it. That, in the long run, is going to help you measure your growth and success.
Who is this art journaling exercise for?
This is an artistic activity for anyone! It’s going to be based on collages so that makes it suitable for people who have a hard time expressing themselves in words, who can’t really write, and who can’t draw either. However, if you are an artist and you prefer to illustrate, paint, or draw, this activity will be a great stimulation for your sense and hand-mind coordination. The idea is to express yourself and your feelings now as documentation for your future self and maybe your past self as well.
What you will need?
You only need as many pages as you want in the same size, pictures to represent our events or memories. All of them shall fit in an envelope that you can title “2023”. You might also need some pens, watercolors, or markers! Whatever you prefer.
What do you put in the pages?
This isn’t a one size fits all kinda situation! It should be personal. We all have memories that mark us, experiences that only we had, and so on.
Final thoughts for all art journaling exercise
It’s important to note that you shouldn’t rush this! Sometimes it might take time for you to come up with exactly what you want to speak to your future self about and what marked you in the previous year. Make sure what you create gives you enough details and perspective to look back and see how you progressed. I encourage you to share with me what you created unless it’s too personal and you’re not comfy sharing it online.
