A few months ago, I had a painting idea that required a specific pose, to which I didn’t find a reference online. So I started looking around for free websites and books that would help me figure out the exact pose that would give a sotto-in-su impression to my painting. So here is a list of 5 free websites to practice drawing poses and figures.

The websites I list in this article are:

This page contains affiliate links, meaning I earn a commission if you use those links. Please read my disclosure for more details.

Before I share with you the websites to practice drawing poses and figures, if you are someone who would rather have a physical reference, let me remind you that you can get an artist’s wood figurine to shape and use according to your preference for the pose you want to achieve. You can get it on Amazon through this link: wood figurine.

You can also buy books with figure poses such as:

Morpho: Simplified Forms: Anatomy for Artists (Morpho: Anatomy for Artists, 2). A Kindle version of the same book is here.

Classic Human Anatomy: The Artist’s Guide to Form, Function, and Movement

Proko

I wanted to start my list with Proko because I believe that it has very great photo references as well as paid courses and classes that would teach you in detail about figure drawing and poses in human anatomy. They also have an art model sample pack ready to download for free (both censored and non-censored).

Proko has some free lessons as well, which you can check out here:

Line of action

This is another free website that offers poses and figure photography for reference. Once you land on the page, you can pick the parameters you wish, depending on what you want to draw, and you can also choose the time you wish to allow for a practice session. Line of action, just like Proko has nude options if you prefer that for your references.

Posemaniacs

This website offers portrait references, poses, and figures in the shape of real humans, as well as human muscle models. Posemaniacs are a very valuable source, and if you are an artist who likes to practice and be challenged, you will find daily poses on their home page that you can recreate and study.

Conclusion

There are so many other free websites to practice drawing poses and figures, such as Quick Poses, Sketch Daily, AdorkaStock Sketch, and more. Share with me your favorite from the list and enjoy creating <3
